MASSIMO MURRU
Curriculum Vitae
Born in Milan,
he studied at the La Scala ballet school. Graduating in 1990, he became a member
of the company. He became a principal in 1994 after performing "De Grieux"
in Mac Millan's Manon.
Since then he has been dancing leading roles in the classical repertory, including
Nureyev's Nutcracker, Swan Lake and the Sleeping Beauty,
Patrice Bart's version of Giselle with Alessandra Ferri, Peter Schaufuss's
La Sylphide, Natalia Makarova's La Bayadere, Ronald Hynd's The
Merry Widow with Carla Fracci and Susanne Jaffe, Balanchine's Agon,
Apollon Musagete, Uwe Scholtz's The red and the black, Etudes
H. Lander; Giselle (Bart, Ruanne, Guillem, Matz Ek,tradional), Swan
Lake (Nureyev, Roland Petit), Nutcracker( Nureyev, Poliakov, Hynd).
His meeting with Roland Petit who chose him to dance the male leading role in
his Carmen at La Scala, was a turning-point in his career and developed
into a close artistic relationship wich led to the creation of Cheri.
He begin to work with Petit's Ballet National de Marseille performing Bolero,
Swan Lake and Witchcaft.
He danced "Albrecht" in Mats Ek's Giselle, "Quasimodo"
in Petit's Notre Dame de Paris and in Quartet, William Forsythe's
first creation for La Scala. The same year he opened the La Scala ballet season
in Nureyev's Cinderella followed by The Four Temperaments (Balanchine),
Poliakov's version of Nutcracker in Florence, Ondine (Ashton)
and Nutcracker (Hynd).
Later he danced in Patricia Ruanne's Giselle with La Scala in Tokyo,
where he also partecipated in the 8th and 9th World Ballet Festival.
In April 2001 danced Petit's Proust ou les intermittences du coeur in Florence.
He made his debut with the Royal Ballet in Ashton's Month in the country
opposite Sylvie Guillem. In October 2001 he has been invited by Paris Opera
to dance the role of "Quasimodo" in Petit's Notre Dame de Paris.
Mr Petit creates for Massimo Bolero, a solo Les feuilles Mortes,
Swan Lake and Witchcaft, Cheri (opposite Carla Fracci).
During La Scala's tour in USA the review said: "The dancer who played that
Nazi also turned out to be the evening's big news: a lanky firebrand named Massimo
Murru who brought his distinctive charisma, technical flair and partnering prowess
not only to Amarcord, but also to Roland Petit's familiar 1949 version of Carmen
on the same program"; and also : "Murru turned out to be the evening's
other revelation; he had been les impressive carler in the week in a different
program. He was an ardent, affectionate suitor. He had an open clean classical
style."
As a guest artist he has appeared with Deutsche Oper Berlin, Theatre Colon of
Buenos Aires, Paris Opera Theatre, Royal Ballet Theatre, Teatro dell' Opera
di Roma, Teatro Comunale di Firenze, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Arena di Verona,
Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Teatro Bellini di
Catania, Teatro dell' Opera di Marsiglia, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia.
He has partnered Carla Fracci, Sylvie Guillem, Alessandra Ferri, Altynai Assylmuratova,
Susan Jaffe, Lucia La Carra, Domenique Kalfouni, Greta Hodgkinson, Margaret
Illman, Simona Noja, Isabelle Guerin, Luciana Savignano, Viviana Durante, Pompea
Santoro.
Since 1998 he is Resident Guest Artist with Teatro alla Scala of Milan.
